My plan for this game at this point was primarily to create a fast paced third person shooter with platform elements. I really wanted the player to have to keep moving forward. In addition I planned to include a system where the player’s energy bar was also their health, tying health and ammo to theContinue reading “IOH Prototype Plans”

Prototype: IOH
This video contains the first prototype build of my game, which I am currently calling IOH. This third person shooter build includes hitscan firing, which depletes the player’s blue bar. Crouching disables firing but shields the player and restores their blue bar. Holding the fire button charges your shot, and if the purple bar fillsContinue reading “Prototype: IOH”
Kitbash City
This city environment was created from a small selection of geometric shapes and basic flat textures. Both of the more complex buildings were created from the same pieces as the city.
Shooting Range Environment
For one of my final first year pieces I created a first person shooting range environment. This level features a custom character model, a hand created animation blueprint and blendspace, hitscan weapon firing, reloading, target enemies and mobile enemies. The environment is also decorated with graffiti created from my own original drawings.
UE4 Dock Environment
This environment was created in UE4 to practice level layout and lighting techniques. Custom assets were added including the railings and lamp posts.
Sword Models
Some early sword models from when I was first working in 3DS Max.
Sculpted Landscape
This landscape was sculpted using the inbuilt landscape tools, then painted with a custom landscape texture. Basic architecture was added for scale. Later, I incorporated post processing effects to improve the lighting.
Heightmap Landscape Test
Early on in using UE4 I attempted to create a large environment from a heightmap drawn in Photoshop. I created a landscape texture using free texture samples and applied it to test the scene.
ArchDev Course
Before starting my current degree I used an online course to learn basic scene layout and lighting techniques in UE4.
